As Saigon eagerly awaits its first metro line, we look back at the city's original rail-based transportation - streetcars.
There's little information available (in English, anyway) about the streetcar system which, as far as we can tell, stretched from the city center to Cho Lon.
Built by the French, streetcar tracks lined many of Saigon's major thoroughfares. While it's unclear when the system was disbanded, tracks were still visible on some streets until at least the late 1960s.
Can you imagine streetcars in Saigon's sea of motorbikes?
If you have any information about Saigon's old streetcars, let us know!
